Who We Are

History

The vision to begin YWAM Morelia began several years ago before our team ever came to this city. A young girl attending a DTS in Chapala, Mexico in 2008 dreamt of something similar existing in Morelia one day and shared the vision with friends and leaders. In 2012 Daniel and Katie Holmberg had a dream of establishing a new YWAM Campus in Mexico—something fresh and distinct. They had a vision of professionals coming and being equipped to go out and through their vocation transform every place that their feet would touch. In their dream there were several key elements regarding the location: (1) access to an international airport, (2) in the mountains, (3) a city of over half a million people, (4) a city surrounded by indigenous communities, (5) the historical centre of Mexico, and (6) a cultural and artistic heart of Mexico.

After some research, they traveled with a team to several cities in Mexico that fit this description—one of which was Morelia. Upon arrival, they fell in love with the city and knew that this was HOME.  Almost 9 1/2 months after their trip to Morelia, they were visiting again, and Katie went into labour with their first son.  This marked the Word that God was speaking, "it is time, and it will be quicker than you had planned.  When birth begins, there is nothing that can stop it, and the vision has been birthed."

Within a few months, they made the important decision to go to Mazatlan, Mexico to finish building their team and initiate the rather quick process of moving to Morelia.  "The vision has been through many, and many more will come, but we know that Morelia is in the heart of God and we are so excited to see all that the future will hold!"
